Welcome to a whole new world of possibilities!
If you’ve struggled with anxiety, depression, or PTSD for years, somatic release breathwork therapy with me could be the pivot toward a new life.
I see breakthroughs with clients who have been in talk therapy for years with unsatisfying results.
Stop using the precious energy, motivation, and money you have to talk about your problems and start using them to heal.
I believe the key to healing the pain of today…
… is to acknowledge the body’s messages about the past.
Both psychological and physical ailments tell us “something isn’t right.” When everyday life events make you want to crumble up and cry or scream out in anger, your emotions need attention.
You can bet that if your emotions overwhelm you regularly, your mind and body want you to tend to the past.
The mind-body connection is undeniable, and it’s the secret to healing the struggles that bring you to therapy.
Uncovering lies and upholding truths…
That’s what will be at the heart of our journey together in therapy.
“I will never be good enough.”
“No one can ever truly love me.”
“I need to have control or something bad will happen.”
If those statements read as “truths” to you, I want to assure you that they can be revealed as the lies they truly are after our work together. (And you’re in good company – all of the clients who graduated from therapy with me once believed these lies as fervently as you do now!)
As a woman therapist in Pasadena, CA, I am skilled at guiding you to see exactly how those lies came and re-writing them together. The pain is briefly seen and then released. There’s no “convincing”; it’s realization. Your mind will see yourself and the world differently.
My approach assumes you’re whole and perfect…
… and that person is waiting to be released. Each session is focused on bringing you closer to that version of yourself.
You might wonder how it’s possible to genuinely change your mind about the world if you’ve been in typical talk therapy where a therapist presents new ideas and you “learn” them.
The approach I take is from an entirely different angle. A big part of what we’ll do is “Somatic Breathwork.” It is a method that taps into how the body stores and releases old emotions. If you’re familiar with Bessel van Der Kolk’s book The Body Keeps the Score, you’ll remember that he talks about how trauma is stored in the body and offers a few different therapies that access those memories.
This form of somatic breathwork therapy also accesses that information deep in the body. However, it seems faster, easier, and more efficient than the techniques van Der Kolk mentions in his book. I have you lie a certain way and breathe in a certain way, which changes what we can access in your mind. The emotions that come up are the ones already burdening you. I help you release them right in the session so that you never feel them as strongly as you do now.
I understand that this kind of work might be new to you. If you prefer, we can go slowly and answer all your questions thoroughly before beginning. But if you’re eager and want to jump right in, we can do that. It’s not uncommon for clients to realize this is exactly what they’ve been looking for to improve their mental health.
Clients say to me…
“I didn’t know this kind of change was possible.”
“Six months ago, I never could have imagined myself doing the things I do today.”
“I’m finally out of the darkest moments of my life.”
“When I’m in a tough place, your words help get me back on track.”
About Me
I’ve been practicing psychology for about a decade…
…but I struggled with depression for two decades before I got relief.
My choices as a therapist and a client were traditional “talk therapy” with medication to help me “get by.” Seriously, though, what else was there? Boy, was I wrong!
About five years ago, I was training with a brilliant psychologist who told me, “You know, we have to heal your past before you can work with clients.”
That put me on the path to Somatic Breathwork. It helped me heal my own past, and I’ve used it to heal my clients’ past.
My personal life is filled with activities I love…
Even if I’m not particularly skilled at them (yet) – things like gardening, interior design, and knitting.
My family includes my husband, my 10-year-old son, and our 15-year-old miniature poodle, Lucie, who, according to our veterinarian, has the blood of a 3-year-old dog.
We are an outdoorsy bunch, spending our free time hiking on trails, playing at the beach, or just meeting with friends at the park.
